Colposcopy is a method of examining the cervix through a special magnifying device (colposcope) when a Pap smear result shows abnormal changes in the cells of the cervix. The procedure is done in the clinic in a manner similar to a Pap smear. With the aid of the colposcope, the view of the cervix can be magnified by 2 to 60 times, thus allowing a closer examination of the problems in the cervix that cannot be seen with the naked eye.
