MediShield is a catastrophic medical insurance scheme that enables you or your dependants to settle part of the expenses arising from prolonged hospitalisation and certain outpatient treatments for serious illnesses. It complements Medisave savings, which may be greatly strained in the event of prolonged illnesses which require longer-term medical treatment. This scheme is administered by the CPF Board.
MediShield is an individual catastrophic medical insurance administered by Central Provident Fund (CPF) Board and designed to help Singaporeans pay part of the large hospitalisation bills for treatment. The monthly or annual premiums are paid from one's Medisave account.
If you had purchased a Medisave-approved Integrated Shield Plan (IP) from an approved private insurer under the Private Medical Insurance Scheme (PMIS), there will be a higher coverage for your surgery expenses. This is because the IP is made up of MediShield and an enhancement plan offered by the private insurers under the PMIS.

How to utilise your Medisave and/or Medishield?
Payment is required upon completion of each visit at The Obstetrics & Gynaecology Centre. If you were to utilise your Medisave and/or Medishield, the approved amount claimable will be in the form of re-imbursements by cheque(s).
The Obstetrics & Gynaecology Centre will assist you with the process of utilising your Medisave and/or Medishield. In order to do so, you will need to provide us with the following:
- Photocopies of both sides of the patient's and Medisave Account Holder's NRIC
- Accurate information on your Medishield plan i.e. type of plan and name of insurer
- Completed Medisave Authorisation Form for Day Surgery with signatures by both the patient and Medisave Account Holder(s)
The Obstetrics & Gynaecology Centre will submit the information together with the invoices to the relevant parties. No further action will be required on your part. Once the claim is approved, we will issue a cheque to you within 3 weeks.
Please note:
The bill will be paid by MediShield first (if applicable and approved) before Medisave is withdrawn to settle the balance. The combined Medisave and MediShield claims cannot exceed the total bill. If you do not have enough Medisave savings, you can use the Medisave savings of your immediate family members. However, the maximum amount of Medisave that can be withdrawn will be subjected to the Medisave claim limit for each bill.
If you are currently employed, your Human Resource Department would be able to provide you information on your medical benefits and/or medical insurance coverage under your company’s group health insurance plan.
If you have purchased insurance policies, you may want to contact your insurance agent to verify your eligibility to make a claim.
If you are an expatriate and have an insurance plan that covers you globally, please contact your insurer to obtain information on your medical coverage. With a Letter of Guarantee, direct billing arrangement can be made with the insurer.
